New Britain, Connecticut emcee, Niki Ellis is determined to set her mark in the hip-hop culture. With music playing a major role in her life since her youngest days, today she’s grown into one of the most promising emerging female artists. In a genre that seems to be lacking female emcees who focus on substance and quality, Niki offers way more than typical rap.
Influenced by her father, who was a DJ, and listening to the records he would spin was a daily routine. The first time she connected with women in the rap game, she instantly fell in love with the idea of becoming an artist herself. That was back in 1997, where she credits the Queen Bee, Lil Kim’s legendary posse cut “Not Tonight (Remix). Penning verses at the young age of 8 wasn’t laborious for Niki Ellis, and by middle school, she was already writing full songs. After receiving a standing ovation for her stellar performance at her 7th-grade talent show, she felt an overwhelming high that she’s never been able to come down from. At that very moment, she was sure that this is what she was destined to do for the rest of her life.
Life hasn’t always been easy as a young girl and she went through her own trials and tribulations to prove herself as a solid female emcee. Niki used her struggle and allowed it to fuel the fire within her heart, which combined her confidence, technique, style, and skills that drove her to perfect her craft.
She joined the Air Force at the age of 21 and used it to help further her career. Throughout the years, she has made musical connections all across the world and has been able to grace stages from her home state, all the way to Japan. Now settled back in Connecticut, she has released her first EP titled “Beautiful Struggle” featuring her singles “Live in the Sky,” “All Night Long” and “Carry On,” as well as her album “Unexpected” featuring the singles “Feel Good” and “Do Ya.”
She has been well received in the blogosphere and has also been featured on Hot 93.7’s “Up Next” Artist Spotlight. Currently, Ellis is geared up to drop her forthcoming EP entitled “Every Now and Then” which features her first single, “The Way of Life” produced by Chill Shump, and the most recent single “Red Dot” produced by 2wo 4our. She recently opened up for Cardi B at CT’s own Toad’s Place and performed for a sold-out crowd, and performed at SXSW Music Festival in Austin, TX. With her unconditional love for Hip Hop, her consistency, ambition, and dedication, it won’t be long before Niki Ellis is a well-known household name.
